Sensitive Information: We do not process sensitive personal information (such as social security numbers, health data, or biometric information).

Information automatically collected

We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use, or navigate the Services. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information for analytics and error tracking:

  • Log and Usage Data: Service-related, diagnostic, usage, and performance information our servers automatically collect, including IP address, browser type, referring URLs, and how you interact with the Services.
  • Device Data: Information about your device you use to access the Services, such as hardware model, and operating system.
  • Error and Crash Data: When errors occur, we collect technical information about the error state, and device type to help us diagnose and fix issues.

Location Data: We do not collect your device's precise or approximate location. Heimdall displays satellite positions based on publicly available orbital data, not your physical location.

Data from Third-Party Sources

Satellite orbital data (Two-Line Elements or TLEs) displayed in our Services is obtained from SpaceTrack.org (operated by the U.S. Space Force) and other public domain sources. This data is used solely for visualization purposes and is not combined with your personal information.

2. HOW DO WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: We process your information to provide and improve our satellite visualization Services, respond to inquiries, and ensure security.

We process your personal information for the following purposes:

  • To facilitate account creation and authentication: Creating and managing your optional account, allowing you to save bookmarks and preferences.
  • To save your preferences: Storing your bookmarked satellites, filter settings, and display preferences (account holders only).
  • To respond to user inquiries and support requests: Processing your questions, bug reports, and feedback submissions.
  • To improve our Services: Using PostHog for anonymous analytics on feature usage, and Sentry for error monitoring and crash reporting.
  • To protect our Services: Monitoring for fraud, abuse, and security threats.
  • To comply with legal obligations: Responding to legal requests and enforcing our terms.

3. WHAT LEGAL BASES DO WE RELY ON TO PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: We only process your personal information when we have a valid legal reason to do so under applicable law.

If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on in order to process your personal information. As such, we may rely on the following legal bases:

  • Local Storage: We use browser localStorage to save your preferences (such as theme settings, filter selections, and display options) directly on your device. This data is not transmitted to our servers unless you create an account.
  • Cookies: We may use essential cookies for security and authentication purposes. We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising.
  • Session Storage: Temporary data stored during your browsing session to maintain application state.

You can clear local storage and cookies at any time through your browser settings. Note that clearing this data will reset your preferences to default settings.

For account holders: We will retain your account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our Services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we need to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.

For anonymous analytics and error data: We retain this data for up to 90 days, after which it is automatically deleted or aggregated.

When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize such information, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.

7. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?

In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.

We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Secure password hashing for account credentials
  • Access controls and authentication requirements
  • Regular security assessments

However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the Services within a secure environment.

Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Notice.
